Kathy Jones realized that a lot of folks in her community were struggling this year and couldn’t afford to get a Christmas tree. So she decided to try to help them get one. The Brevard County, Florida, woman put out a call on a local Facebook group for Christmas tree donations and her idea took off.
Since then, Jones has received and delivered more than 120 trees. She decorates the artificial trees and gets them to those who need them most. Her lucky recipients include a woman who lost her job last month and a McDonald’s employee who didn’t have a Christmas tree for her son yet.
“The overwhelming response from people who were in need was definitely heart-touching," Jones says. “It’s been a chaotic year … and life has changed for everybody. And then a Christmas tree with lights on, it brings about a peace. A joy.”
