A community in New Jersey is rallying behind a family who lost their home and two dogs in a fire on Christmas Eve. Randy Mojica, an Army veteran, his wife Cielo and their four kids were at a friend’s house for a party when the blaze broke out, so they were all safe, but everything they owned was destroyed.
In the days since the fire, the family has received so much support from their community. The borough of Metuchen created a list of ways people can help through ItTakesABorough.com. The Fuccile Foundation, a nonprofit that helps local families affected by tragedies, has raised almost $84-thousand for the Mojicas. And a GoFundMe campaign has received over $43-thousand in donations. Some of the family’s neighbors even brought over presents for the children on Christmas Day.
Mojica says his family is grateful for the kindness. “I’ve never seen a community like this in my life,” he says. “I feel like we’re not alone in this. I feel like there are people trying to reach out to us and helping us. Even though 2020 was such a bad year, this is a good example to show that there’s always love and hope.”
