Having one child go through a medical emergency is terrifying, but one Arizona family experienced it three times, once with each of their young kids. But Sara and Jason Siqueiros are now counting their blessings after their toddlers were diagnosed with a rare heart condition and then each had a life-saving heart transplant.
The children didn’t show any symptoms of their condition - restrictive cardiomyopathy - until they were at least one. For big sister Isabel, who’s now four-years-old, it was a few weeks after her second birthday in January 2018 and fortunately, she received a heart transplant just a few months later in May. Her two-year-old twin brothers, Jaxon and Jason, followed with transplants in June and September this year. All of the surgeries were successful and the kids now have a second chance at life thanks to their organ donors and the experts at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
“It is so easy to take every single day for granted,” their grateful mom explains. “I want them to grow up being thankful that their heart beats for two and never forget that.”
