Young Boy Opens 24-Hour Food Pantry For His Eighth Birthday!

Most kids want toys for their birthdays, but not Eagle Jayagoda. For his recent eighth birthday, he wanted to help provide a place in his community for people in need to get food anytime they need it.

A few months ago, the third-grader from Richmond, California, launched a “Free Little Food Table” near his house and his mini pantry was open on Sundays. But Eagle wanted to expand it to give back more, so it’s been turned into a 24-hour food pantry. He keeps it stocked with the money he earns by recycling bottles and he’s happy to see people using it and taking items.

“Eagle feels like doing his part in the community,” explains his mother, Achala. “You don't have to be rich. I want him to understand how you can help even if you don't have a lot.”
