Nurses Organize Patient’s Hospital Wedding To Lift His Spirits

Carlos Muniz and Grace Leimann were set to get married in mid-July, but their plans changed when he came down with COVID-19. The Texas man was hospitalized the same week he was supposed to tie the knot, but he still got to do it, thanks to caring hospital staff who made it happen.

The groom was admitted to San Antonio’s Methodist Hospital July 15th and spent 10 days in the COVID-19 unit before his condition took a turn for the worse and he was transferred to intensive care. One of his nurses, Matt Holdridge, found out about the canceled wedding and came up with the idea to bring the wedding to the hospital to cheer up his struggling patient and keep him fighting for his life.

The plan worked and in the days before the ceremony, Muniz’s condition started to improve. Holdridge bought matching tuxedo t-shirts for them and served as his patient’s best man. He said “I do” from his hospital bed at the socially distant wedding, with nurses, hospital staff and immediate family looking on. The groom’s health continues to get better and this was a big part of it. Holdridge says, “It was a pretty magical event."
