Woman Bakes Over 800 Loaves Of Bread For Folks In Need

When the pandemic hit and Erin Socall lost her job as a chef, she felt she needed to find a purpose. So the Toronto woman got busy helping others by baking “loaves of love.” She estimates she’s baked more than 800 loaves of bread at home over the last three months and she’s donated them to people in need. She also carves a heart on top of every loaf, so "everybody can have a little bit of love in their lives."

The single mom started off with a Facebook post asking if anyone needed bread and was flooded with responses. Socall would bake 12 to 18 loaves a day and drive around the city dropping them off to everyone from fellow single moms to folks with mobility issues to refugees and she even keeps loaves in her car to pass out to homeless people.

"When I bring bread to people,” she says, “you can actually see the joy in their eyes.”
