After finding out his grandparents may soon run out of food at the start of the coronavirus shutdown, Tanner Kenin was inspired to do something. The 17-year-old says his grandparents, who live in a Des Moines suburb, didn’t want to leave their home and were having issues getting groceries because delivery services were booked and charging hefty fees.
So the high school junior started a project he calls T’s Angel Hands and recruited a team of 15 teens to deliver groceries for free to the elderly, those with underlying conditions and pregnant women in Polk County, Iowa. They’re now making 35 to 45 contactless deliveries a week from grocery stores and a local food pantry.
“I’m hoping to keep this going for as long as necessary,” Kenin says.
