Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, and his wife, Patty Quillin, are making a major donation to historically black colleges and universities. The couple is giving $120-million to support scholarships at HBCUs.
It’s the largest donation of its kind and it will be split between Morehouse College, Spelman College and the United Negro College Fund. The money will be enough for both schools to each support 200 students over the next decade.
“We realized that if we really wanna support the HBCUs in the right way, we should dig deeper,” Hastings explains, adding, “As big and wonderful as this gift is, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the need.”
