With libraries and schools closed across the country, some kids haven’t had access to books. But a middle school librarian in Virginia came up with a creative way to keep children reading. KellyPassek’s clever idea? Having drones deliver kids their books of choice right to their door.
Kelly already uses Wing, a drone delivery service, to bring her meals and household goods, and she thought this technology could benefit kids in her district. The company will start dropping books to students in the Montgomery County School District who live in the Christiansburg, Virginia, delivery area this week. And the kids will have plenty of time to read them because they’re not due until school starts again in the fall.
“I think kids are going to be just thrilled to learn that they are going to be the first in the world to receive a library book by drone,” Kelly says.
