Determined Veteran Finally Adopts Military Dog Who Saved His Life

While serving in his second deployment in Afghanistan, Marine Byung “BK” Kang was a handler for an IED detection dog. Blue the black Lab was specially trained to sniff out explosives and was BK’s partner from 2011 to 2012. He says the dog saved his life and the lives of his fellow soldiers so many times he lost count.

BK was so grateful to Blue, he promised her that he’d give her a good home where she didn’t have to worry about the war and finding bombs. After his tour, Blue was reassigned and he lost track of her, but he was determined to track her down and keep his promise. BK spent years trying to locate Blue and after a lot of searching, he finally did. The dog served her country for seven and a half years and retired at 10 and she’s living out her golden years with BK and his family in Georgia.

“These working dogs, they will give up their life for us,” BK says. “So, we should be thankful to them and respect them and above all, trust the dog because dogs will not lie.”
