Apple Pledges $100 Million to Racial Equity and Justice Causes

Apple is committing $100-million to organizations that support racial equity and justice. The tech company’s CEO, Tim Cook, announced the initiative on Twitter. It will build on Apple’s existing work with historically black colleges, universities, STEM programs and underserved teachers and students. Cook says the program will be built on the three principles of representation, inclusion and accountability.

“The unfinished work of racial justice and equality call us all to account. Things must change, and Apple’s committed to being a force for that change,” Cook tweeted. “Today, I’m proud to announce Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative, with a $100 million commitment.”

Cook explains that the project will “challenge the barriers to opportunity and dignity that exist for communities of color, and particularly for the black community, with special focus on issues of education, economic equality and criminal-justice reform.”
