Sanford Middle School in Minneapolis asked the community for help in response to the looting and destruction of grocery and convenience stores from the protests. They requested 85 meal kits be donated to help feed families in the area who wouldn’t have access to food. And the food drive that resulted shows just how much people care.
The school received so many donations that they covered the front lawn with bags of food and household supplies. Teacher Jabari Brown estimates they received tens of thousands of donations. The line of cars to drop off supplies was 14 blocks long in one direction and had traffic backed up all day. All of the extra donations will be given to local food banks.
Browne says this is just one symbol of the resilient spirit of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. “This will let everyone know that despite everything that’s going on, we are a strong-knit city,” she explains.
Know the story of the loaves and fishes?
Minneapolis’ Sanford Middle School asked for 85 bags of groceries to feed students. There are at least several thousand. And traffic is stacked in every direction for blocks. (The extra will go to food shelves.)
