Renaissance to Offer New QuaRENtine Classroom Sessions

MANSFIELD, OHIO. The Renaissance Theatre will offer an additional series of its QuaRENtine Classroom sessions, beginning the week of June 8th. The new classes will be a “mini-series” of offerings, with participants meeting twice a week for two weeks. This will allow families the opportunity to either try out a class, or to work around other summer activities. The Ren’s QuaRENtine Classroom, and Education Initiative, has offered a variety of educational activities designed with creativity in mind during the COVID-19 pandemic. The series, coordinated by Renaissance Resident Teaching Artist Dauphne Maloney, expanded its offerings to the community in a series of live “classes,” in April. Based upon the popularity of it’s first series of online classes, the Ren’s Education Department chose to continue with new sessions.

Trained by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Maloney hopes that the continuation of the program will serve as another way in which the arts can enhance learning for a range of age groups. “We’re so thrilled that our community has embraced our educational offerings during this time of uncertainty. Being able to offer sessions using a virtual platform has allowed the QuaRENtine Classroom to not only serve our immediate geographical community, but has allowed the Renaissance to reach those students in other communities, in a variety of states, as well,” states Maloney. “This ‘mini-session’ takes into account the needs of students and families as they approach the beginning of summer 2020, since many don’t know which of their usual activities may be moving forward this year.”

The first series of free QuaRENtine Classroom sessions offered classes for a variety of students of different ages and grade bands, from 3 years of age through twelfth grade. The second series will do the same by providing free offerings for the same ages and grades, with different material for everyone.

Beginning May 27, interested parents and educators may visit the Renaissance website (www.rentickets.org), to register for a variety of sessions. Registration is free, and each session has a limited number of spots available. Information regarding any needed materials will be provided by Maloney prior to class sessions. All the material provided can be used by educators, as well as parents and students. Material for the website will be updated, and expanded upon, regularly to include new material and resources for other activities and creative exploration.
